I don't care if it is worth £8mil, it's horrendously ugly and pretentious. I'm not wrong am I?

As they say, money can't buy taste! It truly is fugly.

wowfudge · 19/01/2018 22:24

The photos are repetitive and I'm not keen on the black kitchen, but I've seen far worse and it's in a beautiful spot.

steppemum · 19/01/2018 22:29

there is something souless about it, but that is becuase the rooms are huge and there is nothign personal in it.

I love the outside and the location.
I don't think I coudl live there though, it isn't comfy/cosy enough

IvorHughJarrs · 19/01/2018 22:30

That is a stunning house that has been renovated really badly. I love the exterior but the interior is tacky and out of character

NapQueen · 19/01/2018 22:34

Aside from the internal decor and the columns on the outside of the door I think it is a really lovely house.

lostherenow · 19/01/2018 22:45

I agree the house looks souless, more like a hotel. Regardless, I couldn't live in Maidenhead. The names seems inappropriate. Given that they renames Staines as it sounded a bit nasty why haven't they changed Maidenhead?

drinkswineoutofamug · 19/01/2018 22:55

Beautiful house, agree it's been renovated badly. It needs its period features not chrome shite and a gym. Where's the suits of armour?

Inchyragirl · 19/01/2018 23:03

It’s a beautiful house that’s been decorated in a completely non-complementary way by someone who knows nothing about historic interiors. Such a shame. It needs William Morris wallpaper, soft old fashioned armchairs and Persian rugs, not black kitchens, cream fittedcarpets and spot lights. Hopefully, the new owner will be a little more sympathetic to the style of the property. It reminds me a lot of Wightwick Manor, a National Trust house near Wolverhampton (see picture) which I think is stunning.

This house makes my brain feel weird!
FluffyWuffy100 · 19/01/2018 23:21

It’s a bit McMansion but I’ve seen a lot worse.

Lovely spot.

NoqontroI · 19/01/2018 23:27

It's a weird mix between old and new, where it makes the old look ugly when in fact the new is the ugly part of it. Really though it's been renovated badly. But it's a beautiful property despite that.

brizzledrizzle · 19/01/2018 23:30

It's gorgeous on the whole but you'd have to pay me to live in Maidenhead.

Flowerfae · 19/01/2018 23:38

The actual house is nice, the outside I mean. Photo number six (a sitting room) gives me the creeps and who the hell has a crushed velvet settee?... maybe it is Laurence Llwellyn Bowen's house.

Flowerfae · 19/01/2018 23:40

Inchyragirl .. that is gorgeous

blaaake · 19/01/2018 23:45

What a horrific juxtaposition of old and new. The exterior is lovely, and the old parts inside could be too, but it is spoilt by the tacky bedrooms, kitchen etc. It could be such a cosy house if done well.

What's the hate for Maidenhead, though??

takeitandleaveit · 19/01/2018 23:48

Oh my God, what have they done, and how the hell did they get permission to do that to an Arts & Crafts listed building? Christ on a bike, it's awful. That poor house.

I think I recognise the exterior - I've a feeling it used to belong to someone famous years ago.

littlemisscomper · 20/01/2018 00:46

Oh yes I agree the outside is lovey! Even if you were going for a 'modern' feel the rooms would be hideous though!

OP posts:
Lucisky · 20/01/2018 08:39

Well I've crossed it off my list because it is so close to, and only a few feet above, the river. I bet that has flooded a few times.

whiskyowl · 20/01/2018 08:49

The space inside is lovely. Some of the furniture is not what I would personally choose, but I have seen a whole lot worse!!

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 20/01/2018 14:07

I absolutely love this house.

SleepFreeZone · 20/01/2018 14:10

I’m not hugely keen on the dark windows but everything I see could be easily remedied.

IAmALeafOnTheWindWatchHowISoar · 20/01/2018 15:41

That dining room looks like something out of Beetlejuice. Lovely house though just unsympathetically refurbished.

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 20/01/2018 16:00

The fireplace in the dining room is disgusting and the kitchen isn’t to my taste but it isn’t that bad. Bland and a bit WAG but a lot of the important, characterful original features like the A&C panelling and joinery have been retained and the rest is just fixtures, fittings and furniture.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 20/01/2018 16:08

I love the house, But I think if you've got black windowframes, you should go easy on the black inside. But a bit of gentle colour and some soft pattern on furnishings would go a long way to softening it.

I've certainly seen a lot worse.
The dining room table is rather anachronistic, it needs a lovely mahogany oval table that seats 12!

And unless the owners spend all day in the gym, I'd use that fabulous room for something else.

Tinty · 20/01/2018 16:11

I love it, but I would 'old' it throughout, it's the hideous 'modern' which does it no favours (although I do like the bathrooms). If I had a spare 8 million I would consider it Blush.

Tinty · 20/01/2018 16:13

I love the room Incyragirl has posted also.
