Boiling water tap

I've been reading through the kitchen lessons learned thread and it seems lots of you are raving about boiling water taps. Are they really that good? Are there any downsides to them? DH is concerned that the kids will hurt themselves (although they are not toddlers, the youngest is 6).

Although I've just looked at the price of them Shock

The ones I've experienced in the offices over the years seem to spend more time being fixed than they do working. But they do look handy!

That's what I was wondering. Are they just an expensive gadget that is likely to go wrong. It's easier to replace a kettle...

We have a ZIP tap and I do love it, it’s so so easy to just have boiling water on tap whenever you need it. But I can’t really justify the cost, they are silly expensive!

We have a boiling water tap, and it's amazing. We angled it so that the boiling tap is to the back (see pic), and it doesn't stay on anyway, you have to be actively pressing the lever for it to work.

We've only had a problem once, when the thermostat went, and the whole unit was replaced under warranty. So long as you change the filter regularly (approx every 3 months) it should be fine. I wouldn't go back to a kettle, given a choice.

Bear in mind it only takes a little space on the worktop but the tank/boiler take up most of the cupboard underneath.

We have had one since November and I love it. It’s an Insinkerator - cheaper than a Quooker

The new tank for the newer ones is small enough to go behind the kick thing right at the bottom so they don’t take up all the space in the cupboard.
