Metallic wall paint

Dulux and Crown are doing metallic wall emulsion and catalogs show various suggestions with small areas. Has anyone used this and would it work for say up to a dado rail and then a similar ligher non-metallic shade above?

My parents have a slightly metallic dining room (pale gold). It was my suggestion but I have to admit I didn't like it too much once up - just a bit too blingy for me even in the most subtle version.

Maybe if you have a house full of bold colours and eclectic artwork it could look good but not sure it works in an otherwise fairly subtle and convention scheme.
