Completion dates?

Looks like we’re finally about to exchange and get a completion date (happy dance!)

Question- does completion always happen on a Friday? Anyone completed on any other work days?

You can complete on any weekday that you and the vendor decide - all you need to ensure is that completion funds are available. Mortgage companies need notice hence there gap twixt exchange and completion. Most people choose Fridays as it makes the practicalities of the move itself easier. You are responsible for insuring the property from exchange, btw.

You can complete any day. Our sale completed on a Monday.

You can complete on any working day you want (ie. when the banks are open). Your solicitor will prefer it because they will have fewer other completions. You can sometimes get a cheaper removal firm rate for non Fridays.

If you can avoid Friday you get cheaper removals and less chance of things going wrong.

You don't get a date, you negotiate one.

I personally always avoid Fridays. Yes, the chance of something going wrong is slim but it does happen. A friend of ours had to wait all day as there was a mix up with the money. If they hadn't got it sorted he would have been homeless for the weekend.

Last time we completed on a Wednesday, and the time before was a Thursday.

Good to know! Thank you! Chain wants to move on a certain day but we can’t but the EAs are pushing for a Friday only. I know it can be inconvenient with work mid week but...

Nothing to do with the ea.
