Open plan kitchen/dining/living room plus an extra living room for when my daughter is older. 3 double bedrooms and a garage. I'd also love a bigger garden for chickens .

We moved in Sept.

On our must haves list was:
Location (dd already at school & we didn't intend to move her)
4 bedrooms (though did consider 3 beds with possibility of adding 4th)
Must have a hallway which front door opens in to
Bit specific - garden the children could access independently from the house & be seen from house while playing (as our old one was down treacherous steps)
Kitchen diner, living room plus playroom / additional reception room
Upstairs bathroom
Easy parking (on road ok as long as not massive competition for spaces)

On our nice to have list:
Period features
V v specific location
Off road parking

We have ended up in a 5 bed 1930s house with minimal period features due to how it's been extended. Different location from the v specific one but actually came to realise I prefer where we are now anyway, works better for us. It only has 2 downstairs rooms not 3 but one of those is a massive kitchen / diner / family room & we barely go in to the sitting room as it is so I have no idea what I thought we'd do with an extra room. Otherwise we got the whole wants & wish list. But we looked for a long time & held out for the 'right' thing (our poor buyers!). We are about to fit a new kitchen & reorganise that space to open up the room more and add a utility. Then it will be completely perfect for us.

We are selling and looking. Minimum four bedrooms, a second toilet or bathroom, large, versatile living space, small garden, victorian, big windows. Nice extras would be more bedrooms or basement rooms.

No pool.
Corner bath.
3+ bedrooms.
No neighbours.
Verandah/balcony with French doors
Large garden
Close to work but not close to lots of people (ie rural)
No major work needed (cosmetic okay)
Electricity, running water, space and attachment for a dishwasher and washing machine,
Space for the dc and dog. Fully fenced*
Flyscreens already in situ
Hardwood floors throughout.
Minimum of ADSL cable available.
Coles delivery available.
Maximum of 3 floors.
Well insulated
Less than $100k aud.
(Less than 80k, too Grin ) but we did have to compromise on it being fully fenced.

Wow, Merry! Did you find that? Sounds awesome, but I'd love to know where it is! Grin

MerryShitmas · 15/01/2018 08:12

I did! In Queensland.
Gladstone region (don't want to be more precise than that).
In some parts you can get houses for $40k plus in reasonable condition - a lot of houses are sold via word of mouth locally without any agency involvement which means you can get an even bigger bargain but there are a few houses up for sale in the region for less than 100k on realestate (where you won't get so much of a bargain ime) Ours was a steal to be fair!

When I last moved I wanted a kitchen with a door straight out to a large garden and big enough for a table and chairs. It had to be rural and it had to be an old house. I actually didn't much care about anything else in the house, it could have been two, three or four bedrooms, didn't care. For the first time in my life I just wanted a decent sized kitchen

Large period property
Detached
Large garden
Drive
Garage
Catchment area
Quiet road
Not listed/potential for extension and layout improvement

Ended up compromising on 2 (possibly 3 as the road is borderline) as I fell in love with the house :)

Pixiedust1973 · 15/01/2018 15:38

The main requirement is a LOT more space. Downstairs toilet & off road parking for at least one car is a must, as is 3 good sized bedrooms. An en suite, a utility room & separate study are desirable, but not essential. Ideally, we want a detached house. Had enough of arsehole next door neighbours disturbing us at all hours! Hmm Don't need a big garden. Wouldn't mind if it were small & paved. As long as there is somewhere to sit! Leaving the giant trampoline for the buyers lol!

Our previous requirement was purely location in order to get the DC into the right schools. After over 6 years of living in a shoebox, we're looking to move out of catchment to somewhere big enough to fit us all. Just need someone else to buy the shoebox now lol!

On my wish list when we were buying was:

3 bedrooms-tick
Off street parking for 2 vehicles-tick
Dining room or a large kitchen with room for a big table-tick
A hallway-tick
2 bathrooms-tick
Lovely view-tick
A utility room wasn't on the list at all so that was a bonus. It's by no means finished yet and is a Labour of love but It's been good to think of all the boxes it ticks.
