kitchen design dilemma - please help

After various days spending on the plans, I have come up with two kitchen plans. Really cant decide which plan to go with.

Plan-A: Break the wall between Kitchen-diner and adjacent room and placed kitchen in it. That attached room has a door to garage, and garage will be converted to utility. It gives an overall bigger room but there is column coming in middle of island.

Plan-B: The little block cut off from kitchen-diner will have utility. Overall smaller kitchen diner because in this case, I have to cutoff a part for utility.

Please suggest which ones looks better.

I prefer A.

The attached ground-floor-plan shows a slightly bigger utility. Ignore that size, it would be like plan B size if we go with that plan.

I have thought about it so many times, really lost sleep over which plan to for!

B because I am not as keen on the kitchen layout for A

but as aside - why do you have so many sofas!

Sofas We need 3 sofa and may be one or footstool kind of thing in that room. Coudlnt find footstool/chair on ikea planner so put 4th sofa.

Usually we invite two family friends and their kids at a time with their kids. So need space to sit 6 adults for conversation.

Children usually play in a different room, but join adults for eating dinner on dining table.

I would choose A .
There’s a stand out reason for me.
I’m assuming you have people round frequently for meals etc.
Having the table in the kitchen area would drive me mad. People would gravitate towards it and sit there talking to you. They would pull chairs out and frankly get in the way.

With A while cooking you get to be part of the conversation if you choose to, you can keep an eye on everything that’s going on and choose what you join in while still having your own cooking/ working space.
Maybe I’m just a control freak but I cook a lot and can’t bear people under my feet, -well meaning I’m sure- but constantly going “ can I help? Can i do anything? Here , let me do that........oh god I’ve dropped it , sorry”. Also, it means any kitchen mistakes wont be scrutinised!
But that’s my reason why I like A.

I would look at adding some more worktop space on wall D if that was possible. On option A obviously!

Why is there is column coming in middle of the island in A but no column there in B?

The diagram at 21.41. But your furniture placement in all the designs looks really odd. And I would speak to your builder / engineer to see if you can do away with columns / pillars.

Thanks for sofa and furniture placement comments. I was trying to fit small kitchen near utility and fill rest of the room with furnitures. This time I have tried to merge ideas of plan A and B and reduced the number of furniture around. Does this look ok? Should i make the island thinner as the gap between bar stools and sofa doesnt look sufficient. Will a 3m by 60cm island look odd?

That looks much better. Don't go 60cm with island- yes it will look odd and won't be functional as you won't be able to sit comfortably at it (No overhang for knees). Is there no way to get rid of the pillars?

Your island needs to be 900 deep with 600 deep units and 300 overhand for knees. Depending on worktop you are having granite/quartz will be made to measure. If a laminate top the come in 600/665 & 900. 900 deep will be post formed on both side therefore a nice finish without having to cut the worktop depth.

Any more ideas. Unfortunately I can't get rid of column. I can change position of doors and windows in the room.

Sorry to hijack but what kitchen planning tool are you using?

I personally don't think you have enough kitchen units/cupboards for the size of the kitchen your're planning. I'd run a bank of kitchen units on the wall by the door. Also it seems you only have one window in the plans, how are you going to get a lot of natural light in this room? If the kitchen is in the back of your house where do you access into the garden. Are you having any bi-fold doors? If so this may affect positioning of your furniture

A 60cm island is fine as long as there are not a sink or hob on it and if the units under are shallow to allow knees under. Could you move door to garage / utility so that you can have tall units on wall c?

Your last design works the best by far. Yes yourisland has to be 900mm. It would look silly 60mm and useless to sit at without a 300mm overhang. Work on your last design.

I would go with A though I would question the space in the kitchen, make sure you have enough room to move in there to cook etc.

I'd try and integrate the column into the design rather than it just sticking out. Can you not put kitchen breakfast bar there and utilise it?

I like you new one except the distance of dining table from kitchen. Can you swap living room and kitchen areas?

We've had a similar extension done and put the pillar in the middle of the island with means it doesn't interfere with the rest of the room.

I agree, the dining table feels a bit lost now. I like everything else! Do you really need an island, or could you do a U-shaped kitchen with base and wall units around the whole of that side, then put the dining table in the middle?
