No shower in main bathroom

Just moved house and the existing family bathroom is not big enough for a stand alone shower.

I don't like the shower over bath look so considering having a free standing bath with no overhead shower (although would have a handheld shower on bath taps).

We have ensuites with shower in three bedrooms so family bathroom only used by youngest but we don't plan to live in the house for more than a couple of years do want to be mindful of what appeals generally.

Is no shower in a family bath stupid?

Ensuites are often not well ventilated and can go mouldy if used regularly for showers. I'd much prefer a shower in the main bathroom. I'd buy a house without one but installing one would be the first order of business after moving in.

I have had the same situation with my house so installed a stand-alone bath with handheld shower head as you suggested and an attachment on the wall should you wish you have a shower

The ensuites are all a fairly good size and have external windows So I don't have (much) concern with them being used everyday.

I'd want a shower but with all the ensuites it wouldn't be urgent. All the houses we considered had a family bathroom with a handheld shower and we knew we'd be changing it to a shower over bath as soon as possible.

Is there a way to tile to the ceiling without it looking odd? Ours is only tiled around the bath so can't be used as a standing shower until we renovate.

I would see your freestanding bath as needing to be ripped out and a normal bath with a sower over it but immediately in...

But if you aren't planning on selling and you personally hate showers over baths then crack on and put in an impractical space wasting free standing bath :-)

I am in the same position - hate shower over bath - have you thought of this arrangement - 2nd pic
victoriaplum.com/blog/posts/4-great-wet-room-ideas

so a wet room floor next to bath screened from loo/sink to avoid it getting wet...

FluffyWuffy100 · 11/01/2018 12:52

@another20 now that is an arrangement I could get on board with!

another20 · 11/01/2018 13:07

looks great doesn't it - loads of similar designs on pintrest - I like this one as the floor is raised a easier to install and easier to keep dry.

First time I saw this type of arrangement I thought the flaw was that the bath would get wet and would need drying after shower use - but in reality not much more than if you had a bath.

I’m in the same position, we’re planning on moving the bathroom into a larger room and because we’ve got a couple of ensuite shower rooms I’d really like an ostentatious ‘family’ bathroom with a freestanding bath. It’s interesting to hear other people’s thoughts, just in case I need to reign in my own!!

We e actually taken the bath out of our family bathroom and have a large walk in shower in there. The bath is in our ensuite

I think shower over bath can look amazing if you get the right hardware. BIL has just had this done and I've gone from being skeptical to being converted. They have fantastic quality pipes and taps, though.
