When to buy a new boiler

Our Vokera combi boiler is now nearly 12 years old, over the past couple of years there have been a few breakdowns. We are currently waiting for an engineer for the latest problem (covered by boiler insurance).

How long do combi boilers normally last? Do people usually wait until they are no longer repairable before replacing?

We replaced ours at 19 years old and it was still working, we had a couple of repairs in it’s lifetime and felt it was probably time to get a new one as it was probably less efficient and sometimes can be harder to get parts for.
