Help me compose a note

I wonder if some wise mumsnetters would help me compose a note to pop through the door of empty house we might be interested in buying. Long story short owner had passed away a couple of months ago, our friends were neighbours, friends have told the family that we would be interested if they were going to sell, friends have now suggested that we pop a note through the door with our contact details. I just don't know where to start. I don't want it to seem we are circling vultures!! Help!

Dear X

We are sorry for your recent bereavement.

We are friends of X, who live at number X. We understand that you may consider selling number X in the new year. We are writing to let you know that, should you decide to do so, we would be interested in purchasing the property.

We are and so could undertake a smooth transaction in accordance with your timescale, without the need to market the property or the expense of estate agent fees.

If this is something you would be interested in, please do contact us to discuss further.

We wish you a happy new year.

Best wishes

that is good

Ooh @shortgreengiraffe you are good. Thank you so much. I will pop in my positive statement (sold in rented etc) and post through the door. Will update if anything happens.

Glad I could help. If you haven't sent it perhaps add in a note saying you would love to make it yor family home. People are often sentimental about property and like the idea of it going to someone who will appreciate it rather than a developer.

If owner has passed away is house empty? Will your note be seen?

Mosaic123 · 31/12/2017 23:30

If you send it through the normal postal service they may have a diversion on the address so it gets seen.

princesssparkle1 · 31/12/2017 23:31

That's brilliant @shortgreengiraffe - are you good at CVs too?

shortgreengiraffe · 01/01/2018 15:09

@princesssparkle1

Yes, what do you need?

princesssparkle1 · 01/01/2018 15:21

I need to update my CV @shortgreengiraffe. But first I need to make a list of everything I do so I don't miss anything out in the updating xx

I've done this three times , the first two were similar to shortgreens excellent note, the circumstances were almost the same - owners had recently died and we want express an interest. We got nice friendly replies to our letters but arrangements had been made already. There's no harm in asking as you don't know until you ask. The 3rd time it was a couple who were splitting up and I put a note through their door saying we were looking to buy in the area and - they got in touch and a year on, here we are

shortgreengiraffe · 01/01/2018 18:08

@princesssparkle1 do you want to PM me?

princesssparkle1 · 01/01/2018 18:26

Thank you @shortgreengiraffe. I've tried to message someone once before from the app and failed. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

shortgreengiraffe · 01/01/2018 18:46

@princesssparkle1

Not sure I'm afraid - I'm not well versed in PMs. Can anyone else help? In the meantime I'll try to send you one.

I know from our friends that family check on the house regularly and they had already said to them that we would be interested again I just didn't want it to seem like a circling vulture.

@wheat32 I know what you mean about not wanting to be seen as vultures as one house that we were interested in was snapped up even before the lady had died - her son was made an offer on when his mother went into a care home!! We meanwhile held back out of being sensitive to their loss

wheat32 · 01/01/2018 22:46

@maggiemay23 that is awful. Some folk have no shame. I think a natural time for them to think about selling would be in the new year so will write the note and just hope for the best.
