Booking a removals team

At what point did you get quotes and book your removals?
We're hoping to exchange mid Jan and complete end of Jan. I still haven't arranged any quotes for removals. We're also away next week. Panicking I've left it all a bit late! We have no set exchange date yet though.

I made enquiries once we'd had the offer accepted. You then have time to compare options and different companies. It will be quite 'local' as to how busy they are / how much competition there is, etc. so you can only get that information from them. Dates however can be pretty fluid for everyone - all sorts of things don't work out as planned, so all removals companies are used to being pretty flexible.
If you can move earlier in the week (not a Friday) then it helps with ptions.

Phew. Yes we are in rented and have some flexibility. The vendors want to complete on a Friday but we probably wouldn't move in until the Monday.

Get a few names together, ask for local recommendations and book 2 or 3 appointments for when you are back. Movers usually need to see your property to give you an accurate quote.

You can chose anything from a man with a van to a removal company doing the packing and unpacking for you, so prices will vary hugely.

Whatever you do pay the extra to allow you to cancel at short notice. We didn't and regretted it when our house sale fell through.
