Does tile grout need sealing?

I have just repaired some gaps in the tile grout around our shower. I know that it needs at least 24 hours to dry, but after a Google search, I have read about sealing. Does anyone do this? I had no idea!

The sealing is really to keep the colour of the grout.
I would always seal floor grout because of my dogs

Thanks! I probably don't need to then, I thought it was to do with stopping water getting in.

I would seal in a shower

Any decent grout will do that.
just check it has a mould resist also as helps with a bathroom

I suppose if a job's worth doing.....
If I leave the grout for 48 hours and then seal, is another 48 hours enough before we use the shower? After another Google, some say 28 days!!
