gutter guard/mesh - worth it?

Does anyone here have a guard/mesh on their rain gutters? Is it useful/worth it?

In our previous (two-storey) house I cleared the gutters myself whenever it needed doing but we've just moved into a 3-storey house and would now need to pay someone to do it.

I was wondering whether a mesh on the gutters would mean they'd only need to be cleared this once and then not for a long time after. Obviously, they should keep leaves out of the gutter but I don't know whether there would be other debris that can still get through the holes in the mesh.

What is your experience? What type is best?

The wet leaves sit on top of the mesh! Mixed success here but we are near lots of tres.

We had the mesh on the gutters all the way round our bungalow as we have a number of mature tree front and back of the property, unfortunately we also have numerous pine tree which shed their needles every autumn which falls through the mesh.

It mad the job so much more difficult, in the end we got rid of the mesh and we just work our way round the property and clear out the gutters ourselves, but you can get companies that gutter clean but I don’t know how pricey it is, we’ll just clean it ourself every autumn.

Thanks for the feedback!

Damp: Will the gutters still need clearing regularly with a gutter brush?

I had a roofer here, who cleaned out mu gutters while repairing the roof, and mentioned I was thinking of getting a hedgehog, he turned up his nose at it.

Hmmmm - it sounds like I'd have to get the gutters cleaned every year anyway. I'm glad I asked on MN first, before just buying something that might well not work!
