Hi all. My husband and I have decided to move from Kent to Somerset next year, for a more relaxing way of life. I'm a secondary school teacher so i would welcome advice on schools to apply to. We will be looking for two bed house in a place where we can take our dogs out for long walks, so I would also welcome suggestions of places to search for house. Thank you. .

Exmoor? Plenty of long walks from Dulverton

I made the move from Kent to Somerset 10 years ago and haven't looked back Smile

One thing to consider carefully is how rural you want to be. I was from a London-y bit of Kent and would have found the change to a very rural area in Somerset completely overwhelming. I needed a high street within walking distance with good amenities, but still with some culture within reasonable reach. I compromised and now I'm in a town near Bath which is on a main train line so I can get into Bath or Bristol in under 10 minutes for shopping, can be in London to see friends & family within 1h45 but can also be yomping through fields with the pup within a few minutes.

Depends whether you mean
Bath and North East Somerset. (Bath, Keynsham, Radstock )
North Somerset. (Weston Super Mare area)
Or
Somerset. (Taunton, Wellington etc )

we are really looking for rural areas. I've applied for position at the Castle School so looking around East side of Taunton.

Sorry, I've no experience of that bit of Somerset. I'm in Bath and North East Somerset close to the county boundary with the City of Bristol. That said there is green belt land at the end of our road that separates us from Bristol. I'm also 15 minutes walk from the station which connects us to Bristol, Bath and beyond.
