Anyone ever had a three piece suite re-upholstered?

Ours looks shocking, BUT I've been looking for a new one for months and months and I really can't see anything I like or is as remotely comfortable to sit on. The cushions on ours do need replacing too so it would be a bit like taking it apart and putting it back together again, so I know it would probably be quite expensive.

I love the shape of ours though and the size is perfect. I'm not sure what to do now.

It will be more cost effective to buy a new suite, but if you can't find anything you like then pay for an upholsterer to sort yours out.

Definitely possible, my mother did it. Expect it to be more expensive that buying new midrange stuff, so get plenty of quotes. If you love what you've got and expect it to last years (or decades) then go for it. If you're the type to replace every few years, then its probably not worth it.

I had my grandfathers wingback chair re-upholstered, think it was about £400.

It really depends on the quality. We had one made at Sofa Workshop about 20 years ago and are getting it re-upholstered as there is no way we could afford one of the same quality at today’s prices. Cost for 3 sofas is between £3k and £4K depending on the fabric chosen. Get an upholsterer to come along and advise you.

I have had two done. It’s only worth it for high quality sofas. Mine are Wesley Barrell. You will need about 12-15m for a decent size settee and it must be fire retardant and have a high Martindale score if you want it to last. 50,000 plus. I am pleased with mine but it costs more than buying a mid range brand.

We looked into having our sofa reupholstered and it was more than the price of a new sofa so we didn't bother. It isn't worth it unless you have a really expensive high quality sofa.
