Has anyone done this and does anyone have an idea of pricing?

You run the risk of slips......

insancerre · 26/12/2017 16:15

I have wooden stairs and we have had to paint them with proper floor paint as tfey were so slippey
I've had laminate on a normal floor and found it very slippery

slithytove · 26/12/2017 16:16

It will be the only area with carpet in the house so will definitely be changing it, just looking at an alternative to hardwood.
Quick step do a stairs range and presumably it’s passed safety checks.

Carpet is safer and quiet on stairs. But it's your money to waste.

Ginorchoc · 26/12/2017 20:28

Kardean might be ok.

BubblesBuddy · 26/12/2017 22:08

I have oak stairs and they are no more slippery than carpet. Wear shoes!

So has anyone done it and has an idea of pricing?!

Don't do it! Noisy, slippy, and cold.

AJPTaylor · 27/12/2017 00:30

But surely THE NOISE

slithytove · 27/12/2017 00:40

Ha ok! So what are my alternatives? Wooden flooring in downstairs hallway, mixtures of laminate and wood elsewhere, what on Earth do I have on my stairs?

OP posts:
just5morepeas · 27/12/2017 00:42

Carpet. I'd have carpet in your stairs and landing.

Mosaic123 · 27/12/2017 02:34

My flooring guy said he always refused to put hard flooring on stairs. How about a plain runner?

OtterInDisgrace · 27/12/2017 02:40

Do you have neighbours? Do you care if you disturb them? If so, do NOT laminate your stairs! The noise for everyone within earshot will be horrific.

butterfly56 · 27/12/2017 03:28

My Dsis had hardwood stairs and they were deadly in anything but bare feet!
She covered then in carpet within a few months!

Silvercatowner · 27/12/2017 04:29

Nice wood with a runner and stair rods. Look on Pinterest for ideas.

AJPTaylor · 27/12/2017 08:29

Honestly. Carpet. Maybe a runner and stair rods?
But having tried without, carpet is the only thing.

No - we did it in our previous house (pre Kids) and it was a slippy nightmare. Dread to think what it would be like with children....

expatmigrant · 27/12/2017 09:45

Same dilemma here. Have EW all through downstairs and also want wood or laminate upstairs. think we will go with contemporary look carpet on stairs and landing and then wood in the bedrooms. there were some good photos in one of my magazines. Will post for you if I find them.

slithytove · 27/12/2017 11:13

Photos would be good. Noise isn’t an issue for others as we are detached.

Oddly enough we had carpet in our bedroom and that was far far louder than the laminate with good underlay we have now.

A runner might be an option but not much point going to the expense.
