What is this on my house?

Sky, electricity or something else completely? It has a massive thick cable coming to it direct from the nearest pylon.

Previous owners riddled the place with ugly wires, the back of our house is like an electrical substation.

What is this on my house?

Electricity?!

Lucisky · 24/12/2017 21:33

I have just asked my oh, whose an electrician, and he reckons it's a telecoms connection box.

wowfudge · 24/12/2017 22:01

Connected to a pylon or a telegraph pole? How thick is the thickest cable? Also, is that the old BT 'T' on the plastic casing?

PersianCatLady · 24/12/2017 22:12

Telephone wires.

I suspect that what you think is a pylon is actually s telegraph pole.

Is the pole made of wood or metal?

Bridechilla · 25/12/2017 07:59

Thanks all! Yes I meant telegraph pole, couldn't think of the word and typing on the go Blush

There is a T on the box I can't see it that well but you might be right that it's the old 'T' of the BT logo.

I am certain that it is a telecommunications box then, I always wonder if it makes any difference to broadband when the wires are like yours as opposed to underground,

Bridechilla · 26/12/2017 11:21

We have fibre Persian so I don't even think those cables are related to our broadband, are they?

OP posts:
PersianCatLady · 26/12/2017 12:11

Probably not but they are probably the old telephone cables from before then.

PersianCatLady · 26/12/2017 12:12

Whatever you do, I wouldn't go messing about with them even though they are ugly.
