How much haggling do you do with trades?

Currently having a procession of trades in to give quotes for some work. The quotes for the same work vary but we've had higher quotes from some of the people who we've liked more.

Do you ever go back from receiving a quote to ask if they'll match another? They all have good references.

Ive done lots of haggling with suppliers but none with trades. We have got a few quotes for each trade then gone with whichever we’ve felt confident in the tradesman plus reasonable price

Never! Could be because we're in London and demand for trades is huge. They can pick and choose their jobs so I can't see why they'd work for less. Unless it was Jan/Feb and there was no work around ...

I do! I ask what's the cash price and it always comes down by 20% at least.

Should add that's only for carpentry, decorating etc. Gas, electrics or anything I want paperwork/certificates for I need a paper trail.

Not in London, and I'm looking at January/February starts. We've already done the cash price but today I did a call around to check that their quotes were all comparing like with like "because you've come in a bit higher than the others".
