Retrofitting ufh

Just moved into the world's coldest house. We need a new boiler which will involve ripping up the flooring in most of the first floor (3 storey house). Given that, I'm wondering whether to retrofit ufh. We would probably go with carpet. At the same time we could do the bathroom (I assume you just have to take up the floor tiles?).

The kitchen is made up of the original part and 2 extensions. It is South facing and absolutely Baltic. I assume this would be harder work, I think the floor tiles run under the units so how would we even go about taking it up? Does anyone have an idea on how long ufh takes to fit?

I dunno if there's much point using UFH with carpet - it's like putting a big blanket over your radiators. If your house is cold, you really want something that is going to conduct the heat so you can attack that problem. You can get very good wood-effect tiles now.

It will cost to retrofit, because if you have a wood floor, you will need to insulate beneath (between the joists) with Kingspan, which will have to be cut to size.

We could go with wood upstairs and then just relay tiles in the bathroom. We need to investigate the costs further, for sure, it just seems too good an opportunity to pass up when the flooring all needs to come up anyway.

Sadly the kitchen is really in too good a condition to justify ripping out so if it can't easily be retrofitted there we will just have to put up with it for a few years. I imagine we can get the new boiler specced to allow for ufh in the future?

To retro fit ufh, I believe you need to take up floorboards and it is it not solid underneath then doesn't work as well.
Bear in mind with ufh it takes a while to heat up and not always suitable.
What is your house like, is there anyway to insulate it better?
