Asking seller for measurements

Evening all,
It is weird to contact our sellers and ask for the dimensions of three bedrooms windows (so we can get some temporary blinds) and also the size of the TV in their lounge as it was just the right size for the space when we viewed and I'd like to try and get one the same size in the January sales.
I'm tying to decide if this is an odd thing to ask? I'm just thinking it would be more convenient than me popping round to measure up?
Also would you make contact via a solicitor or via a note through their door? Solicitor would presumably charge for the time spent emailing them the request.

I don’t think it’s a weird request - my buyers asked if they could pop round and measure up for a carpet in a room with a hard floor. I wasn’t overly thrilled (I had to tidy up yet again ) but consoled myself with the thought that if they were measuring up for stuff they weren’t intending to drop out of the sale.
If you haven’t had any direct contact with them up to now I’d go through the solicitor - surely most solicitors give you a quote for fees in advance, not charge for each individual email?

Oh yes that's true about the solicitors MissFezziwig. At least I hope so the amount I've been hassling them via email

You could go via the estate agent? That's how we did all our communication with our vendors.

Its pretty normal practise tbh. Our ex buyers came round 5 times to measure up, show family around etc. They must of jinxed it as they lost their buyer so we're back on the market now! Moral of the story is perhaps wait until after exchange before doing this?

As Beware said though, go through EA, not solicitors!

I'd measure up myself, not ask the sellers to do it. If something goes wrong it's then down to you and not them.

We measured up ourselves. It took me about 2h as I wanted detailed dimensions of all rooms , windows, doors etc to plan work before moving in. I think it’s one of those things that should be expected if you’re selling.

Also, you don’t want to rely on other people measuring up for things like blinds as you need to be very accurate.

Why don't you contact them to say essentially what you've said above, we'd like to check dimensions of ... - would it be easiest for us to come round and measure or would you prefer to send us the measurements?

Via EA, definitely. Just ask them whether they can give you measurements, or if they prefer you to come and do it. We can't guess for you.

Thanks all. I'm not too worried about getting exact measurements as I just need an estimate to buy some temporary sick on blinds to last the first couple of weeks. You can cut them to size but I just need to know how many I'll need as the windows are wide. I'll go via EA

Yes you’re right about the EA. (have tried to blot the whole experience out of my subconscious)
