Dust: yay for the oven, let us know if the pie turned out well! :-)

Thank you all for the reassurance. Current lot indoors is just the UFH guys for w couple of day, we haven’t properly broken through yet as we won’t have windows until the end of the month. They mad a 10 by 20 cms hole on the bottom of the wall... I’m scared of rats... (they’ve put some insulation in it to block it for the night but we’re relatively close to a river. Not going to go into the kitchen in the dark, that’s for sure.)

Granite is a natural product and changes wildly depending on where it's been cut from. I've asked if we can see pictures beforehand. It's just too much of a difference to not go for the cheaper company as it will pay for the hob or extractor!

Log burner quote came in less than expected though; £2k installed. Just trying to decide between a tiled hearth or granite ; it's all coming together:)

It works! I am quite impressed with the combi based on that actually. Worked just like a regular oven. Microwave will be an interesting test. And I must try the grill to as mostly we wanted it so we could grill and bake at the same time.

I slightly regret positioning it above the main oven though as I think it makes getting into it a bit tricky. They double checked with me that I was happy with configuration too!

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 06:24

Is that a Morso? If so, I have that stove and it's absolutely amazing!! I have a slate hearth with it. It's super heavy so check that tiles to go underneath it will be ok with the weight!

You're right about granite! Maybe you can check where it is from in terms of the quarry etc?

Dust- hoooooray! I'm so glad you got to cook, huge symbolic moment. I am braced for a visit from the awful electrician, but hopefully might have mine on by the end of the day!!

Tika - hope the hole isn't too chilly! Definitely get them to keep filling it,we had a week with massive chasms in the walls and I wish I had just told them to fill them! Hoping your rats don't like building sites!!

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 06:25

Oh, and I'm really struggling with a back injury sustained while getting boxes around this weekend. I think it's just a pulled muscle but I've never had one in my back before (guess I've been lucky). I can't sleep very well at all! If anyone has any tips about recovery, is be grateful!

Tika77 · 06/02/2018 07:50

4year, is that stove on a ‘legal’ surface? I’d have thought you’d need a much bigger non combustible area around it.

whisky It happened to me before and resting it just made it worse, I went to a sports massage that sorted ot out very quickly. I thorougly recommend it.

Tika77 · 06/02/2018 07:53

OH, I dropped about 2 kilos of chicken food at the corner of the house this morning onto some gravel that I can’t get it off from... just in case the rats are hungry in the cold.
Chickens are in lockdown due to bird flu, I can’t even let them onto that area. Dog diligently tried to lick it all up but I have to be careful as he can get sick from it.
Looking forward to the rest of the day. :-)

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 07:55

Oh nooooo tika, what a nightmare start to the day!

Hopefully the birds will eat it today before the rats get a chance! Smile

DustandRubble · 06/02/2018 09:29

I am quite jealous of you having chickens Tika! I would love chickens.

Today is worktop day! For the back wall anyway, not the island. I am nervous & excited. I also have a lot of builders back after a nightmare last week so hoping I may have cupboard doors too. Possibly not all of them, but I live in hope.

We are definitely moving out for a bit too. I have a week at the in-laws next week, then back for the weekend, then 3 weeks out while they do the bathroom. It’ll be nice to escape the chaos. Hopefully by the end of it there will just be some minor decorating to do rather than anything huge.

DustandRubble · 06/02/2018 10:23

Oh they are here! I have worktop! This is very exciting.

4yearsnosleep · 06/02/2018 10:52

Use a heatpad Whisky, hopefully that'll help.

Tika he's a Hetas engineer, so I assume so 🤔

DustandRubble · 06/02/2018 10:58

OMG OMG! I saw the worktop in the back of the van and my heart sank. It was not what I was expecting and I was worried I hated it.

But now it is in and I love it! So so much! It looks so good with the grey. And the variation I thought was brown in the van is actually a purpley sort of colour and looks fantastic. I am so happy!

LOVE Dust! What type is it?

Baxdream · 06/02/2018 12:18

That is bloody gorgeous!!

DustandRubble · 06/02/2018 12:23

It’s Apollo Granite in Ivory White. I think we got a cut with a lot of variation in it, the swatch on the website is definitely paler. I can see how being able to choose your granite before it is cut is a good idea. I do love it though so it has worked out fine.

Baxdream · 06/02/2018 12:24

We have our rendering happening today. The bonus being it's just me in the house! We did have building control earlier who were quite gushy about the transformation. All was very positive though.

The other update is we are getting a replacement oven. Our pyrolytic cleaning has never worked. An engineer came out and they needed a part. I contested this saying I'm not having a part in a brand new oven. I got a call today arranging delivery for a new one this Friday. Win!

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 12:24

Yay, Dust! It's really coming together now! Star Star Star

Does anyone have 2 ovens one on top of the other? Can I ask - how did you manage the gap between them so you could open the doors?

Baxdream · 06/02/2018 12:25

I have an oven and a combi. We got a spacer from caple that keeps them apart.

It's so exciting to see everyone's kitchens coming together 😍

DustandRubble · 06/02/2018 12:32

Your cupboard handles are so lush Bax, and great news on the new oven. Well argued.

theredjellybean · 06/02/2018 13:09

Very jealous of everyone...
We are now waiting for builders to come back to do test dig on existing foundations.
The quote is very detailed and is 5.5 below total budget but doesn't include new kitchen or floors or decorating or tiling in kitchen.
I am thinking... We can do decorating ourselves easily, we can get kitchen on interest free credit as love ikea kitchens, don't need new appliances, will be new sink and taps. We can't tile and certainly not laying flooring.
So have 5.5 k to pay kitchen fitter, tiler and have floor... Is that doable?????

theredjellybean · 06/02/2018 13:10

Does ikea fit kitchens? Would anyone advise using their fitters as opposed to builders? Does tiling and floor come after new kitchen fitted?

DustandRubble · 06/02/2018 13:33

Is that including the cost of tiles and floor? Or have you already budgeted for that?

You could probably teach yourself to tile, my sister did and she said it was actually quite easy. She can do walls and floors now. YouTube is very handy!

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 14:03

I think you might be able to get the kitchen fitting on 0% credit at Ikea, redjelly, which would make that easily doable provided you are going for midprice and not £££ flooring!
