Our conveyancing is all going very smoothly and it looks like we may exchange sometime next week. Due to our financial arrangements, we can't move until 21/12. Our buyer's buyer is putting the pressure on for her to be out before Xmas. I've talked myself into the idea that moving before Xmas could actually be a good thing for us. We have a 2 and a 4 year old, it will be the holidays, no settling into a new house on top of school / nursery, new toys and space to explore, the buzz of Xmas to sort of cover up the stress of moving (for them, not me!), time to decorate over Xmas / New Year with DH as he will be off work etc etc. We're spending Xmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day with family, so there's no pressure to get the house ready for Xmas Day. It would just be a case of opening presents and heading up to our families.
I've already found a local removals company who've said that they can pack and move us in the week before Xmas. This is one of the main reasons I'm happy to do the move on the 21st!
Are there are other tips for moving house with children? The last time we moved, we didn't have children and there wasn't the same get out / in pressure as there was a cross over with the sale of our flat / house. Would it be worth having someone in to clean? Our house / new house? Has anyone else moved on top of Xmas? I'm thinking we would need to go on 21/12 in case there are any problems, we would still have 22/12 to sort out any glitches but if we moved 22/12 we would be stranded as everyone would be off for a couple of weeks. Is there anything I haven't considered?
