New toilet question (poss TMI)

I promise I'm not the poo troll!

Has anyone had a new toilet and found that the bowl "catches" your deposits?

I've known a few friends who have replaced their suites and been really disappointed because modern toilets seem to be designed so that solids hit the bowl rather than the water and need cleaning off every time. I'm not talking about a bit of a skidmark. I mean large solids Envy

Is this a thing? Do my friends all poo at funny angles?

Has anyone had a new suite recently that doesn't do this? I'm looking at bathrooms now and all the ones I've seen look like they have this feature. Are they designed by Gillian Mckeith?

Do you mean catches intentionally? Sometimes on the continent I have noticed toilets with an “inspection shelf” above the waterline that the poo sits on, before being flushed away. Quite interesting, but I always thought the point of the water was to minimise smells.

greennailvarnish · 23/11/2017 23:52

Ours has this and I hate it.

BumWad · 23/11/2017 23:54

Yes I know exactly what you mean.

Our old bathroom in our old house didn’t leave any marks.

We had a new bathroom fitted (Roca) I think and every time me and DH there seems to be marks left. I said the exact same thing as you to a friend and she has the same!

I think it’s becuase newer toilets are more compact?

It’s bloody annoying having to clean up each time you go Hmm

LaughingLlama · 23/11/2017 23:54

Modern toileta dont.tend to actually flush much away but its ok because the ever shrinking cysterns are saving us water and a 2nd chance to view our poo!

BumWad · 23/11/2017 23:55

I have a water jug that I use to pour water on the poo now to wash it off the sides 😖

TheDonald · 23/11/2017 23:57

Yes it's probably to do with being efficient and saving water. Except you have to flush about 3 times and use a load of bog roll to clean it!

Our new loo does thos drives me mad! It's a bathstore edwardoan one.

TheDonald · 24/11/2017 00:00

I don't mind so much for me. I will clean it and do what friend did and line it with tissue beforehand.

It's when you have kids in the house (I foster) and they don't deal with it so I will end up having to constantly check / clean it.

Is it a European loo? If so, it's probably a deliberate design

TheDonald · 24/11/2017 00:03

I don't think so. I think they got it from b&q.

Why do the Europeans want to have a look at their poo anyway? Maybe those brexiters are starting to make sense!

I think this happens when people buy toilets online and get toilets designed for the continent. Some nations like to have a good look at their shit before getting rid!

I had a bathroom put in about three years ago and my loo is brilliant. No need for a second flush. But I bought from a uk supplier not online.

TheDonald · 24/11/2017 00:09

Hiding do you know the make or model?

OP posts:
BumWad · 24/11/2017 00:22

Ours is a Roca one

OlennasWimple · 24/11/2017 00:24

If you type "german toilets" into Google the first suggested autofill is "poop shelf" Wink

Lucked · 24/11/2017 00:25

Yes we replaced our en-suite and I looked at the outside design not down it and only after it was only after it was installed did we realise it had a shelf.

bumpertobumper · 24/11/2017 00:27

I got a new loo and have this problem. Basically the circumference of the pool of water is too small so it hits the edge on the way down. In future I will only buy a loo I have seen in a showroom and I am happy that the pool is wide enough.
Americans have shelf loos too, but the is water in the shelf, so not smelly but can certainly have a good look Hmm

CatastropheKate · 24/11/2017 00:29

Too lazy to google, but I've been told that the inspection shelf is to check poop for evidence of worms as more uncooked/airdried meat is eaten and tapeworms etc are/were more common.

Flamingale · 24/11/2017 02:30

@CatastropheKate I've also been told by someone that's the raaon for the shelf.

I thoroughly checked over my Facile toilet by Polish company Cersanit that I bought in Homebase last year. It has a very good flush and no shelf, just a slightly rounded bit. You can also order from local plumbers maerchants.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 24/11/2017 07:25

Op, mine came from Plumb City.
I think it was from the Instinct range.
