Calling those who know their neutrals!

As per the title, I need someone who knows their neutrals!

I'm after something not too bright white & not too cream/magnolia. I want to be able to see it on the walls but not in your face, I just want it as a neutral backdrop to all of my other bits.
Not too cool & not too warm. Definitely nothing bluey or grey. So far tried:

F&B - dimity - too red & too dark
F&B - Wevet - too grey/cold

Dulux Jasmine White - Too yellow
Dulux Timeless - Too pale
Dulux White Cotton - Non existent
Dulux Egyptian Cotton - Too dark & green
Dulux Nutmeg White - too dark

Before I order more samples I would like to try & narrow it down to a few. I've asked F&B, they suggested Slipper Satin. Any experience of this one? What is Wimborne White like, looks too white on the sample card but they're not very helpful are they!

Any other suggestions please?

Have a look at valspar too. They have an excellent range and decent sized pain chips so you can get an idea on different walls. The colour in the pot turns out exactly the same colour as the chip.

I've used it quite a bit recently.

I painted over dulux timeless with almond milk from valspar which was much warmer in my north facing room.

F&B Strong White is your friend, very subtle, and modern.

Wimborne white is gorgeous. Clean, creamy milky white. Much more neutral than Dimity or Wevet but more interesting and complex than wh
I did a couple of rooms in Slipper Satin three years ago. It’s a slightly pinky greyish cream. Almost a dirty Magnolia but cooler (sorry know that doesn’t sell it, it’s nicer than I am making it sound.

Natural Calico - if Nutmeg White is too dark then I think this would be too as it's a similar depth

Drop Cloth - waaaay too dark I'm afraid! (Dimity is too dark if that puts things into perspective)

Strong White - Too cold bluey/grey i have this in my bathroom

Gunpowder, thanks i will take a look, I think I stick to Dulux just simply because the testers are cheap! And usually on offer at wickes. B&q is a bit of a trek for me :(

Is Wimborne White more white or cream? Is it one of those that you can only see if you put pure brilliant white next to it?

We had dulux hay bale all though our old house and really liked it. A client today had dulux pale
Mocha all through and that was similar and very nice.

i like Dulux Timeless, it does not seem too pale to my eyes.

Ohh not heard of hay bale before! Just had a look nice colour but would defo be too dark.

There's a lot of natural light & a super high ceiling, which really affects the colours. I haven't had this problem in my normal rooms!

I'm trying to figure out what colours slipper satin & Wimborne White actually are (the F&B colour chart isn't great imo)

I've also just noticed Dulux summer linen on the bottom of the chart, wonder if that is worth a try!

Cabbage white or blackened? Maybe too cool for you though.
Joas white is warm

I have Wood Ash in my hallway. It’s a very subtle almost-white grey. Looks incredible against the Downpipe woodwork. (Even if I go say so myself 😆)

Skimming stone? Has a pinky undertone.

Little greene slaked lime is lovely.

Also bear in mind that f&b (and most to be honest) colours look dark when set on a small piece of paper against a white background, but are much lighter when actually on the wall. It's a peculiar phenomenon!

Farrow and Ball pointing is nice.

Dulux Almost Oyster. A warm pinky-grey/white. When it goes on it looks very pink, but it dries a 'warm' off-white

I’m sure you know this already- but you should paint colours on to a large piece of paper (A4 or bigger) and hold them up against the wall in question. If the wall is currently painted white, everything will look dark. Which direction does the room face? The light in a room influences the colour of paint hugely.
Maybe send us some photos of your room and the direction the window faces so we can help more.

Have you got a decorators centre near you? My local Crown one is great. They'll mix to your specification, eg you could take a sample of one you like and then they'll add a touch of white to lift it to the next colour. I've even taken a mixed tin back down because it's still a little dark and they've lightened it again.

F&b stony ground

Dulux trade swansdown is a lovely warm greige. Currently having it put pretty much everywhere!
