Replacing light fitting with pendant

There's a square very old light fitting in the spare room. I'd like to replace with a pendant. Unfortunately decorator has just carefully wallpapered ceiling with blown vinyl and carefully cut in the square light fitting.

F I gate the light fitting taken out could I put up a ceiling rose to hide where the fitting was and put a pendant through that?

Yes & ceiling roses are often light weight so don't take too much sticking

Also paint it before you pu it up so you don't have to mess up the wallpaper

Yes definitely. I'm about to do the same. You can get paintable polystyrene ones in all sorts of patterns.

Good advice about the painting, thank you!
