Ikea kitchen appliances any good?

I'm planning on an Ikea kitchen in the new year, and want to incorporate a dishwasher, which it would be easiest to get from Ikea too.

Does anyone have any experience getting appliances from Ikea? I wouldn't normally go to them for white goods.

Eh... I adored my IKEA kitchen and would get another now we’ve moved in a heartbeat if we moved... but all the appliances were crap. Light went on extractor fan almost immediately, oven started making a weird noise although still worked, dishwasher left awful residue taste in everything. I was so shocked as I really am ikeas biggest fan. But really don’t do it (I did it for ease and because they looked pretty together like the brochure). Also it was hard to sort out, Ikea batted us to whirlpool or whomever it is who makes them, was really hard to get through to them and gave up in end.

Sorry if we could afford it I meant at the beginning!

there's no particular reason to buy appliances from a furniture shop.

Buy them from an appliance shop. Wider range, usually better value, more price competition.

If you want an integrated dishwasher you are more or less obliged to buy it from Ikea as the "normal" integrated dishwashers can't open with the extra long Ikea door fronts. (They used to sell adaptor kits to convert regular dishwashers but no longer do.)

Ugh, that's helpful but disappointing!

I'm also replacing my fridge and washing machine, but I don't want/care for them to be built-in so I will be scouring the Which? Report as usual for those!

It's just because I would prefer the dishwasher built-in

Doors too long?

We got our dishwasher from IKEA for the reason mentioned above about door sizes. We really didn’t want to, but it was just way too much of a pita not to. In the end we were really happy with it. There did end up being a slight problem with it after a while, but it was repaired quickly and efficiently. I really wouldn’t worry about getting the dishwasher from them, it’s made by one of the big electrical companies anyway (Whirlpool maybe?) and at least with IKEA you get a long guarantee period and decent customer service!

We have an Ikea kitchen that was here when we bought the house. I think it went in in 2011. Integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer, cooker etc. Never had any problems with any of them

Many Ikea appliances are now reviewed on Which?

The reviews vary a fair bit. The cheaper end tends not to be that good, but some of the mid range stuff does very well - the Smaklig hob, Kulinarisk pyrolitic oven and the stainless steel £250 microwave all get excellent reviews.

We have all ikea appliance including dishwasher and they have been great and you get a 5 year warranty with them too. My dishwasher takes some abuse and it's still going strong at 4 years.

Coming back to reassure you really that actually the dishwasher wasn’t that bad on reflection, it was mostly extractor and oven. We hadn’t chosen top of the line for those as couldn’t afford it. I think you’ll be okay.

I had an Ikea kitchen and appliances installed in my last house in 2006, I don't live there any more but still own it as a BTL. Had a fan oven, integrated fridge and halogen hob fitted and as far as I know all are going strong 11 years later (I'm sure I'd hear fairly quickly if they weren't!).

Thanks everyone! My old dishwasher broke and flooded everywhere (some of the reason for getting a new kitchen!) so I am a bit wary, but I'll check out the models and guarantees etc.

the newer Bosch and Siemens dwrs have a cut-out leak detector on the water supply hose. I don't know if this is common on other appliances.

We had all Ikea appliances except oven and microwave, for which we thought we’d go for something ‘better’ from John Lewis. Both JL things have been rubbish. All Ikea stuff, however, still going strong!
