Under-stairs cloakroom/WC

Does anyone know what size of space you need to have to install a loo under the stairs? Looking at a house with only one toilet and wondering...I’m in Scotland - don’t know whether building regs are different here and spent ages googling last night without finding a definitive answer. How much head room does there need to be?

Not sure but my brother added a downstairs toilet and had to add a shower to get it signed off by building regs. He’s in Scotland. I did it (England) and it’s a tiny little understairs toilet no way there was room for a shower. No problems and building regs signed off no issue.

Pretty sure you wouldn’t get a shower in there as well! Need to go back and measure discreetly when seller isn’t looking.

Unlikely you'll be allowed to fit one (as we discovered from an architect yesterday....) due to new building regs regarding accessibility for disabled people - each floor must essentially be 'liveable' for a person with limited mobility - so you'd need to either fit or prove there's space to fit a minimum 900x900 shower adjacent to the toilet - either in the room or right next door and able to be knocked through. Also regs regarding headroom and the space between the sink and loo too which might catch you out. Basically despite the fact we have a large understairs cupboard crying out to be turned in to a loo, we can't because we can't fit a shower too.
