Hello everyone!

I posted ages ago about a house near a pylon - didn't buy that one in the end as the bloke bought his ex out.

Currently going through process of new one. It's a 1930s semi. Owner is a developer and has ripped original parquet out (sob). Homebuyers report has shown there is inadequate means of escape through the windows upstairs - the windows just open out at the top. Would this bother any of you? It hasn't occurred to me before but now I have a one year old the thought of not getting out of a house upstairs if there's a fire terrifies me.

Another thing highlighted was asbestos in the unattached garage - does this pose any problems?

We are so tired and fed up of house stuff, it's been one thing after another!

No opening windows upstairs seems unusual. Tbh I'd be inclined to take another look myself to check. The asbestos roof is typical and not an issue until you need to repair or replace it.

This is the house on google earth. I think we'll take another look. It is worrying but seems to be every other house on the street is the same strangely.

There used to be a tool you could buy that would break the windows to enable a way out in an emergency. These windows were quite common at one time.

Yes its just they are older windows, and it wasnt standard to have wide opening windows until more recently. I'd recomend a hammer you can smash the window with and you can also get a rope ladder for emergency escapes. Not sure what its specific name is. We didnt have wide opening windows in our last place, but did have a hammer.

We also just got a report back saying the roof of the garage was asbestos containing concrete. But the concrete isn't breaking so ive no worries about the asbestos. Obviously if we decide to re-roof then it'll be done according to the HSE, but if it aint broke then it'll stay.
