We have just bought a doer upper 4 bed end of terrace in east London. We had a full survey before exchange which found that the bay window needed to be underpinned due to "historic non-progressive settlement" - apparently it's common for bay windows not to have adequate foundations. We got building insurance no problem, but the policy is only for while we are carrying out the refurb works.
We have now completed and had a structural engineer come to plan for the bay window works. Our builder has just sent me his plans which show that he wants to underpin the whole front wall of the house.
I haven't managed to speak to either the builder or engineer yet, but I'm panicking that when we go to get our insurance after the works are done, we are going to really struggle because of the underpinning - is this right?
