Relaying dug up patio slabs after extension

Hi we are near the end of an extension. The builder dug up our patio when doing the groundsworks but has said that he and other builders don't usually relay the slabs nor provide steps down from the side utility door or glazed doors at the back. He said it will be extra cost to us. We're quite surprised about this and assumed he would put right whatever he dug up. Has anyone come across this before? Thank you

Was it included in your quote? If not, then it'll be extra I'm afraid. Never assume anything is included by builders!

We had the same. New back steps and relaid patio were extra. We paid them and they did it in a couple of days. They were packing their tools up though. We just didn't imagine they wouldn't put it back to how they found it, or not include steps.

We had the same, extension built where patio was, so patio relaid elsewhere. But ....It was included in the quote. It took two men two days, so quite a bit of labour.

Thanks everyone. The extension replaced a (slightly smaller) conservatory so there aren't that many slabs that need relaying. It seems odd that builders don't include for at least steps out in their quote. Thanks again.

Ours didn't include re-laying the patio or a step, but our builder did clarify this beforehand thankfully. We've still not got round to sorting the patio out!
