Help me find Pendants for Island

Hi,
I'm cracking up here. I need to choose pendants for over our kitchen island before the end of the week and I'm SO FED UP of trawling through lighting websites. Doesn't help that the kitchen is not even in yet so it's hard to picture what will look well.

Here is the kitchen - the island will be the dark grey, 1.5m wide. We're thinking 2 or 3 lights. The kitchen style is matt and handless so fairly modern. Can anyone please help? Thanks!!

Ikea Hektar? Dark grey with an off white inner, slight industrial feel, available in three different sizes and has a good length cord (plus chain on larger sizes). I’ve seen them used in quite a few kitchen photo shoots.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 10/10/2017 15:10

Heading to B&Q this evening to buy a selection of pendents. Kitchen is actually going in this week so we will have a chance to look at them properly before having them fitted by electrician.

I'll keep those IKEA ones on the backburner for now, they're a good option but Ikea is not all that convenient for us.

And to think, there is still paint, tiles and other light fittings to pick Confused

I had to choose lighting in a hurry too (fitted next week I think) and thought I wanted three pendants (I think it is 1.9 metres by 1.5, or thereabouts).

I actually went for something completely different by accident and am now excited to see it.

I did like the website in general too.

I love your countertop, please tell me what it is, it’s lovely and I love it!!

About the pendants have an odd number of them. That’s all I know. My friend bought hers on eBay and they are nice.

3luckystars · 10/10/2017 18:46

OK when you get back from the shop will you tell me? Is it quartz or stone. I have to find out tonight or I won’t be able to sleep!!!!!!

Good luck with the pendants also.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 10/10/2017 19:00

Ooooohhhh!!!! Yes please find me the name!! Thank you.

Any luck with the lights?

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 10/10/2017 22:02

This is the brand of worktop: www.in-house.ie/leading-edge-laminates/travertine-silver.html

The doors will be all handleless matt and didn't think I had a pelmet planned but there appears to be one in the Quote!

I got 6 different lights fittings in B&Q, from glass, to small and white, to large and black! Going to test them all when island is in, I'll make sure to keep you posted. Thanks for all the help so far, much appreciated.

Sweet jesus holy fucking god this is never ending.

The builder is pushing back on 3 individual pendants because they only have 1 hole in the ceiling and putting in an extra two will require more time and then plastering afterwards with the scaffolding. Sigh.

So now I'm trying to see if there is a suitable bar pendant that would require one 'hole' but has 2 or 3 lights on it. But also one that can have the flex changed. I think the space is just too big for just one light ... but then I came across this and it could work ... is it too 'dining roomy'?

I quite like that one - is it one bulb or more? Will it be bright enough if only one bulb.

How about something like this

Or this

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 11/10/2017 11:08

It's 2 bulbs Threesocks

Funny, I already have that Next one on my shortlist .... getting no bloody work done this week!!

I like that space ship-y pendant you've just linked Hammers

We had a habitat version of this in our kitchen diner (modern/white) which worked really well www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_3030018113991SZE_-1

or would something like this work in terms of a bit more mid century/dark vibe (would need to get warm bulb colour to pick up on tones in kitchen)

www.debenhams.com/home/lighting/ceiling-lights?ps=max

another website I love is pooky.com

good luck!

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 11/10/2017 11:44

What's that Debenhams link myrtle, the URL is not working properly!

Pooky.com looks great, but nothing suitable unfortunately.

Firstaidnovice · 11/10/2017 13:20

Don't let the builders talk you out of what you really want! Ask what extra work is involved, if there's a cost, and then consider if it's worth it. If you're at the stage of installing lighting you're obviously nearing the end, and they are keen to just get finished.
I'm just saying I compromised on stuff to keep the builder happy, and I really regret it.
Sorry if that isn't helpful! I really nearly went mad at the end of our build, so I feel for you!

myrtleWilson · 11/10/2017 13:27

sorry - it was this one
www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_3030011030601SZE_-1

you can see it on the lighting homepage at the bottom (under mid century - but for some reason the light isn't in the mid century section)

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 11/10/2017 13:35

Good advice FirstAid, thanks.

To complicate matters even further, this kitchen, although I'm 'designing' it, it's not actually for me. It's for my MIL and my soon to be, next door neighbour. She doesn't really have much of an opinion so has left all these decisions to me. Which in a way is great, but also not.

We have entire house to build once this extension is finished #killmenow #firstworldproblems

This has been an incredibly useful thread - I'm looking for a very similar thing but I have a slightly longer island (2.5mx1.2m) and probably much lower ceilings. I'm trying to find a pendant with three lights and adjustable height (but won't look silly if it ends up having to be the minimum drop!)

picklemepopcorn · 11/10/2017 17:05

I'm so sorry, nothing useful to say, just- I thought you wanted 'pedants for Ireland' and wondered why. Should 'a gone to Specsavers...

4yearsnosleep · 12/10/2017 19:44

Have you looked at Matalan. They have some amazing light fittings at the minute! Some lovely clusters and pendants x

another20 · 13/10/2017 01:09

Loads of gorgeous ones here
www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/chandeliers-and-ceiling-lights

my fav would be 3 of these green glass ones either long and low over island or maybe to one end at staggered drops

another20 · 13/10/2017 01:30

I like this quirky idea - 3 similar but different

www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/deco-pendants

But I would def go for a pop/accent colour against the neutral kitchen

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 13/10/2017 07:19

Those Graham & Green lights are fab..Funnily enough the original lights we were going to go with were the ones below, but unfortunately I could only get them in brown which wouldn't have worked.

We have chosen, dah dah dah dahhhhhhhh!

Finally. It was pretty evident that these lights will be amazing in this space, going to buy 3 but we may only go for 2, depends on how it looks.
