Should I tip carpet fitters?

I'm having some new carpets fitted. I've been quoted a good price but the fitter put it as £xx+ drink. Does that mean a tip or literally a cup of tea Confused?! I don't think I've tipped fitters etc before, but have I got it wrong all along?!

If you do a job round this way for a drink it means money.
£20-£50 should be ok I think. If the carpet and fitting price was cheaper than other quotes you've had.

Thanks. Glad I asked!

I wouldn't tip any tradesperson who asked for it like that!

I've never tipped a trade person. I'd ask what they mean '+ drink'. Expecting £50 on top in cash would seem dodgy to me.

I'd just ask what they like to drink when they arrive, then go and buy a 4 pack of it at the local supermarket. Our first builder said the lads would snap my hand off for a custard cream and access to a kettle so that's what they got. But they did over run and charge extra in the end.
