We have had our mortgage fully approved to move house. My phone has basically died (pay as you go very old iphone). I had been planning to get a new iphone after we've actually moved so it doesn't come up as a new credit application, but do you think it will be ok to do it now? Or could that jeopardise our mortgage? All perfectly affordable etc however if my whole family's life didn't revolve around the apple messages I'd be quite happy with a cheap phone!

If your mortgage has been agreed they have already accepted you so it should be fine. The only problem would be if you don’t exchange in time and lose your mortgage offer and have to start again. I wouldn’t have thought one credit check would make much difference either way though (unless you had loads done finding a mortgage or for some other reason recently?

Why do you need a contract? DS has a constant stream of, because he breaks them i-phone. He buys them s/h off friends who have upgraded or a shop.

senua I did think about buying one sh, but seems like a false economy. They don't seem to last that long (this one is only 4 or 5 years old and basically unusable). Also don't want to buy outright as we need our savings for moving house- every penny!

If you do the math it does usually work outs cheaper to buy upfront if you can spare the cash and get a sim only deal (Three do good ones) than a pay monthly deal with the phone included.

IPhones if looked after should last a fair number of years and even then can be sold to pit money towards a new one.
