Just that. Led recessed lights or pendant? In a small hallway

Downlighters. We went for pendants and I hate them.

I prefer the look of pendants. Just make sure the shade around them doesn't block light going around the space.

You could go for something inbetween like this Egoluce Alea - cubes can be ceiling or wall mounted and look great. A bit warmer than spots and not as fussy as a pendant...

Pendants, definitely.

I don't like holes in ceilings.

Quite apart from the way they let noise, smoke and fire into the floor above, downlighters are intended to create puddles of light in a dark room. They are so inefficient that if you want to have the whole room well-lit at an even brightness, you need dozens of the things.

We have one of each. Pendant in the main bit of the hall as you come in (with a ceiling rose) and then a downlighter further in for extra light.

Pendants

Downlighters look awful anywhere
