Stair carpet - Carpetright or independent?

We need put a carpet for our stairs - we're trying to sell and the hallway desperately needs smartening up. Has anyone used / can recommend Carpetright or would we be better off with another or independent company? We used a local family run company in our old flat and they were lovely but the owner has retired. There is a huge carpetright near us but I'm nervous that they use a range of independent fitters.

Independent.

We got some from carpet right. The fitters were smokers and our house and the carpet (which had been sat in their van) stunk and took weeks for the smell to clear. The manager was useless. He came out to inspect but as a smoker himself he couldn't really tell. I didn't have the energy to get a refund but needless to say I'm never using them again.

Got mine from cartpetright with no problems. However picked them as I needed the interest free credit. Dont get underlay there, v overpriced.

Independent has always been cheaper than Carpet Right for me.

carpetright isn't necessarily the cheapest and you should definitely buy underlay elsewhere. But they are convenient and the interest free credit is useful.

Did a bit of research on this last year and found lots of people not happy with fitters carpet right use. We went with independent in the end although I have used carpet right in the past for cheap tarting up of a small flat and they were ok. Didn't want to risk it with bigger job and better carpet!

would not recommend carpetright. There fitter mucked up and they said it is not their problem. fitters are self employed. even though they told us the fitting price and took a seperate cheque for him in the store when we ordered carpet. dodgy arrangement

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful. And don't think I'll be using Carpetright!
