bolier costs - HOW MUCH!?

my boilers broken down AGAIN and having paid to fix leak and so on last month now need to get the heating part of it working as when i came to turn heating on over weekend it wouldn't work. Boiler is 14 years old, been very dodgy over last several years and have been advised to get work done on it but not convinved how long it will last anyway (work would be chemicals, system flush, magnetic filter)
BUT I reckon if its going to cost me a few hundred quid might be worth looking at new boiler. British gas have a half price boiler sale so had a look at boiler prices. wouldn't be much more for a new boiler by time i get the work done and the annual service, and would still be same crappy boiler.
So got British gas round - boiler on half price sale would be less than £600. The installation though - £3400 - i Mean for a days work, 2 at most that seems extortianate. AIBU? I already have a boiler so it is like for like swap. it just seems completely unbelievable that they can justify it. scaffolding to access flue is £600 but that still leaves near on £3000 for installation costs!?
can someone give me an idea of what their boiler installation cost? I already have all piping and radiators so no need for any of that to be costed.

Call a couple of gas safe registered plumbers to give a quote instead.....should get it for around £2k supply and fit x

British Gas quoted us £8.5k. Our local gas safe engineer did the lot for £4k (that was new boiler and new radiators plus a bit of other work on pipes)

That's really expensive!!

Mine came in at about £2k including the boiler (combi boiler for a 4 bed semi).

That is too expensive! We had new boiler fitted along with 4 radiators for £1600 2 years ago by a local firm. Worcester boiler with 7 years warranty too.

About £1000 here
Don't involve British gas.
My mum coming down with dementia. Wanted a new fire. Got bg round.
Signed the contract. It was almost £4000 for a boiler and fire.
She was over the moon.
W
Luckily she told me and I cancelled it and railroaded them.
They were going to stick a new boiler and fire on 40 year old paint encrusted, furred up radiators.

She was actually entitled to a whole new system through help link.
Which she got.
Don't go anywhere near them.

We had British Gas and boiler was about £600 (half price). Fitting and power flush was about £2250. We didn’t need scaffolding even though it was upstairs and it was taking the old combi out and putting new one in , it took 1. 5 days and although more expensive that a regular gas engineer it was very convenient and fitted quickly, we were very happy with it. I also don’t seem to have much luck with tradesmen and BG were very reliable and turned up, I was expecting a quote of about £4K though.

British gas quote was twice what other local gas safe registered fitters were - We got a top of the range boiler for just under £2k rather than the £4k quoted by BG. Definitely look around.

I used BG to fit a new Worcester Bosch boiler in same place as old one. It was their half price boiler sale and with a Hive thermostat it came to about £2130.

It was a fixed price quote and I'm glad it was because when the fitter took the old boiler down the wall behind was in a shocking state. They got one one of their builder chaps around to sort it out. So I think the price I paid was not extortionate in the circumstances.

The only thing was that my magna filter on the old boiler wasn't fitted to the new one. They are coming back though to fit a another one.

Ours cost about 2k which included moving the boiler and adding two radiators used a local gas safe engineer. Worcester Bosch boiler was £930 quid rest was radiators and fitting.

Took two days - so a good Day rate for the plumber.

Don't forget if it's been running with no inhibitor and the rads and pipework will be filled up with sludge and will at a minimum need a flush if net new rads. It also makes sense to get a filter fitted.

My sister got BG round to fix her boiler they said she needed a new one as old one completely broken and quoted her 3.5k. Funnily enough when she got round a little local independant plumbers it wasnt broken and needed one small part replacing costing her the grand sum of £85! Oh they also quited for a new boiler and said it would cost no more than 2k

Along with many others on her, BG quoted us more than twice that it cost us for a local Worcester Bosch approved heating engineer to instal a new boiler. The WB man also put thermostatic valves on the radiators and some pipe work.

It’s funny as when when had BG cover every year they found faults and issues. Since we’ve stopped and use an independent gas safe engineer we’ve never had any faults or issues and just save the money into a separate account so if we ever need to pay out it’ll be there. So far cost us £35 quid a year for a service and that’s it so we’ve a good few hundred in a savings account for when it needs a fix. I’m sure BG go out their way to find and create faults.

It’s like flushing the system BG quoted serveral hundred yet local guy did it for about 70quid.

Our boiler was covered under their insurance scheme and after a bit they couldn't mend it. Service depot guy said he wasn't got good to get sales department to quote as he knew we wouldn't go fit it due to price and said they would do it for what a local plumber would do it for which they did and it was all good. I've found they are always about double and from what he said they are very well aware.

My boiler is pretty old and the radiators probably even older - my plumber had said the water was brown and it needs flushing so whoever fits will have to do that as well.

The thing that seems astonishing to me is some people on here are saying they are been quoted £4000 - even £8000 while others are saying that they got it done by BG for around £2000!
while obviously there are going to be some differences in the work done or the property type or size surely a like for like boiler replacement is not going to cost that much different!!
I'd e-mailed the plumber again who came to fix the leak last month to give me a price as he's now given me a price for flushing, installing magnet and the annual service and he's not got back to me and getting any kind of tradesman round here is like trying to find hens teeth. I'm looking at going with boxt - much cheaper, a full service(flushing service, free controller etc) and seem recomended. also their interest rates if you put it on finance is lot cheaper than BG.
Never heard of them so trying to find out a bit more but reviews so far seem good.

unfortunately not - thanks for the suggestion though - I had looked but as i work my a**e off in two jobs i am above the threshold (not by much but over none-the-less)

We had a system boiler replaced with worchester 30 combi, magnetic filter, control, full system chemically treated then flushed for 3 hrs with a machine. Old hot water tank and pipe laid/removed as required (we kept tank and pipes and got money for recycling). 4 thermostatic radiator valves fitted. Fitter was worchester approved. £2,300.

We had it done at the beginning of the summer when they tend to be much cheaper and compete for work.

Make sure your flush isn't just a chemical flush, it really needs attached to a machine for 2-3 hours to flush water around the system and the magnetic agitator drill attachment thing on each of the radiators a couple of times to get the sludge moving. Once we had that done the difference in the heat in the radiators was significant.

We had Helplink, they were recommended by a friend and we got them out to quote us.

They did a lot of work, not just a new Worcester Bosch boiler but 10 new radiators, plus they installed 2 new towel rails supplied by us, upgraded the pipework size, changed the pump system, chemical flush (we have microbore pipes) fitted a magnaclean. They were here for 3-4 days, and it cost us £4,500. We bit their hand off.

Previously we had been under BG homeservice and I couldn't fault them but our boiler was 15years old and dying a slow death BG couldn't compete with the new install price.

The annual service for the new boiler by Helplink was £90.
