Wi-Fi/smart sockets and gas boiler?

Can anyone, tell me is it safe to use a Wi-Fi/smart socket to put on or turn off my gas combi boiler? It's got a timer, but if we were out and wanted to turn the heating on for coming home, would this work? Any advice greatly appreciated, by both me and my immediate neighbours. Grin

Although it can be done I don't think I've ever actually seen a boiler that plugs into a socket rather than being hard wired into a fused spur. I think you'd be better off with a smart thermostat to be honest. Most, if not all of them, come with an app that lets you control the heating from outside the home. Some can even tell when you're on your way home and turn the heating on automatically.

Thanks for your advice. Our boiler has a cable and plugs into a normal wall socket. That's why I wondered about the wi fi socket idea as we use them for lighting etc already. Will have a look at smart thermostats now.
