Please will you show me your shoe storage? We are a family of 5 and as the 3 dc get bigger so do their shoes and so does our shoe mountain! It drives me mad - would love to see how others manage.

We have these each person has 1 for their shoes. Holds 4 or 5 pairs of dc and 2 or 3 pairs of adults enough for downstairs and able to swap in shoes as needed.

DC and my shoes are in baskets under a bench (not my fancy ones though which are upstairs) and we have this for DH's massive shoes that won't fit in a basket!

kitchen unit makers offer wine racks like this which are very strong and not bad looking.

you can have them off the shelf, or made to order in any finish you want. The "wall" ones are about 300mm deep, which is enough, and available up to 900mm high. Mine holds 10 adult shoes, one per pocket, but child shoes and espadrilles fit a pair per pocket.

you can put kitchen unit doors and legs on them if you want, or just put them inside a cupboard or wardrobe.

We keep ours in the understairs cupboard. We have a shelf each for shoes and then boots go at the top.

We had old fashioned hobbit sized cubby holes made bespoke, as we have a tiny hallway and small feet! It was surprisingly affordable.

mumtomaxwell · 17/09/2017 22:13

Thanks! Some great ideas here.... I like the idea of hiding them all away. Like I said, currently we just have a massive mountain of shoes!!

Shoes drive me mad the dcs have 2000 pairs of shoes each and I usually have 4 million pairs of shoes in the hall.

They take up the shoes they don't wear that often and put in their shoe storage in their rooms and only leave downstairs the ones they wear regularly.

When I say 'they take up' that means I collect and chuck into their rooms

Clankboing · 17/09/2017 22:34

I have tried loads over the years but have come to the conclusion that the bottom of the wardrobe is the best, then leave current shoes next to the wall smartly in the hallway.

Golondrina · 17/09/2017 22:51

We have 2 Ikea Ställ shoe cupboards in the hallway.

YorkshireTea86 · 18/09/2017 07:03

I am thinking about this at the minute because we are having the kitchen done and we enter the house almost directly into the kitchen (tiny porch, no room for storage) I think a pax wardrobe might be the way to go or ikea have a unit called a mackapar online but I can't tell how many shoes it holds.
We have the Ikea brusali at the minute but the bottom cupboard won't pull out anymore for some reason and it doesn't hold enough shoes really, we still end up with a few pairs out.

fluttershyby · 18/09/2017 07:47

We have an ikea kallax with the cheaper baskets. One basket each and they hold plenty. Similar to the pic

@fluttershyby do men's shoes fit in the kallax? And don't the shoes get squashed if they are just dumped in the box? I'd looked at them but wasn't sure if dh decent shoes would get squashed if they fit in.

StripyBlanket · 18/09/2017 09:25

I've been looking for ages for our hallway. Surprisingly Argos have a couple of benches that look good but they are too big for our space. I was thinking about the Ikea Stuva pull out storage bench but not sure it is classy enough!

fluttershyby · 18/09/2017 09:25

Yorkshiretea the biggest size in our house is an 8. We mainly wear trainers and walking boots so it doesn't matter if they'd get a bit squashed. I do have nice working boots in my box and they seem fine. Only thing need to look out for is to make sure shoes are dry and fairly clean otherwise all the other shoes will get dirty.
Any wellies I put in carrier bags and lay them down.

We had drawers put in under our stairs like this, 3 drawers takes loads of shoes, and still room for our cupboard at the tall end

mumtomaxwell · 18/09/2017 21:32

Sounds like I need to get to ikea!
Whatever we choose it needs a solid back, which most ikea purpose-built shoe things don't seem to have. It needs to go against the bottom part of our stairs which has normal open spindles.
