Painting tiles

We've painted our kitchen a pale/sage green last year but never got round to sorting the tiles out. So we have mainly cream tiles but have a line of red tiles above the cooker hood. We were originally going to re-tile the whole lot but life got in the way and it's only now that we want to sell that we think they probably ought to go.

Is painting tiles worthwhile or will it look like my 4yo has done it? Or are we better off just getting the red ones replaced? If we paint then what colour? Can't really go cream as won't match the rest of the cream tiles, but will green look weird given the cabinets are green. What other colour would go? Time is short ish as really keen to get the photos done and the house on the market (should have done this last year Sad)

We painted over a dated tile edging in our bathroom with dark grey - it really doesn't look bad at all. Has lasted fine as well (we were worried about it chipping/wearing especially in a bathroom.

Obviously we can still see the texture (it was a slightly embossed design unfortunately) - on flattish tile I t think you'd notice, especially in the location you describe. I'd probably go with cream.

Maybe buy a cheap tile to practice painting first to get a feel for how much to use/brush etc?
