Is it good place?- Balby Doncaster?

I'm about to move to Doncaster due to job. I know nothing about this place and doing my research.
Got the house offer in Balby. Is it good area to live?
I will be with my little kids also with dog. Is this place suitable for families?
Help please.

Hello. Good luck with your move. I have recently moved back to a village north Doncaster with my DH (who is not from area) and two children. I don't know much about Balby but I would say it depends on where you used to live. Doncaster is ranked as one of the lowest performing authorities for education and so do your research to make sure you move into a catchment area for a good school. I personally don't think much of the town centre and prefer to go to York. Having said that, the people are genuine and very friendly, there are some great gems such as clubs and societies (kids music, dance, sports, wildlife, horse riding, swimming, etc) out there and you're quite well connected to the coast, York, leeds, etc. Yorks wildlife park is great. House prices quite reasonable.

Is your job in Doncaster, I'd commute in and live somewhere else like York.

I used to live in Doncaster in one of the villages and it was fine but I wouldn't like to live in Balby, it is quite run down and lots of low level crime and anti social behaviour including drug taking/dealing etc. If your interested in that part of Doncaster then Warmsworth is nearby and much nicer. What is your budget and or wish list and I can try and think of some more places for you to have a look at.

Agree with ineed, my husband is from Doncaster and doesn't think Balby is a particularly nice area but agrees that Warmsworth is a nicer area not too far away.

Balmy is not great, Doncaster as a whole isn't particularly nice although there are some nicer bits. What about Sheffield or Rotherham, rotherham centre is rubbish but there are some nicer villages. Or out towards Wakefield, again the town is ok but the if the villages are nice. Then you aren't too far from Leeds for more going on
