Any electricians around? RCD won't go back up

I've been using a wallpaper stripper and now my RCD has tripped and won't go back up. I've worked out that is the downstairs circuit that is tripping it.

Been using a wallpaper stripper so assuming water has got into the plugs? Should I just wait for it to dry out?

Thanks!

couple of things you can try

turn the lever of the MCB switch fully to the "off" position before you try to turn it on. Some have an intentional latch

turn off the MCB marked "downstairs sockets" then try to turn the RCD on

turn off the Main Switch then try to turn the RCD on, then the main switch.

Do them in that order.

A photo of your consumer unit might be informative.

Clean water will dry out cleanly but it is very possible you have a wet sludge of dirt and paste in the socket and it needs replacing with new. Are you competent to remove and reconnect a socket?

oh and unplug everything from all the sockets in that room before you try to put the power on

I meant "turn the lever of the RCD switch fully to the "off" position before you try to turn it on. Some have an intentional latch"

Thanks v much. I have managed to get the RCD back up but have isolated the circuit from my living room to hopefully allow the plug point to dry out....! I hope there is no sludge but just in from school pick up etc so will give it a try to see if it is ok now. Fingers crossed...

Thanks so much for the advice.
