Moving North to South

Has anyone done this successfully, in that you have managed to get enough for your property North, to reclocate South?

We are currently in Cheshire and are hoping to re locate to the South East in the next few months. The house has been on the market for best part of a year; few viewings and one unsuitable offer. We have just changed agent, going to do an open house at the end of the month, taken new photos and re vamped the description.

It feels like I in particular am in limbo, as after losing my job at the end of last year, desperately need a new one. I thought the house would sell much quicker, so I haven't gone into job hunting up here, all guns blazing. However, needs must and I need an income. Should I start looking and applying in the area we want to eventually move to, or apply for jobs up here, as the house isn't sold?

Anyone else in this 'limbo' state?

Thanks.
Nasreen

By the sound of it, you might be asking way too much for the house? Otherwise, at least you'd get people through the door.

Pricewise, not sure what you're expecting and where but it isn't all doom and gloom in the south. Even in London, its possible to get a family house with a garden for under 500k.

If you're determined to move, I'd probably establish a realistic price for your property and see if you get viewings within a couple of weeks. If it's looking promising, you could look for work in the new location.

Hello JoJo
We had a few estimates done and all came up with around the same price bracket. We are at the upper end of the market for this town, but by no means the most expensive. We can't afford to drop in price at all, otherwise we would not be able to buy anything substantial.

Think you are right though, we need the traffic through the door before I can consider looking for work in a new location.
