Has anyone found a decent dupe for F&B Wimborne White

Hi everyone

We're about to re-decorate our kitchen and I've got my heart set on Wimborne White. However we're not planning on staying in the house forever so in an effort to save some pennies I was wondering if anyone had found a decent dupe for it that's a bit cheaper? In our last place we tried getting Johnsons to mix up a colour match, and to be honest it just wasn't that good; it was way, way too yellow. Has anyone had any better luck with any of the other companies matching services, or is there an off the peg option that would work just as well? It doesn't have to be an exact match, I just love the subtle warmth of Wimborne White; any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated! TIA :-)

Our whole house is done in knock off f and b from dulux decorators centre. Totally different paint from the dulux you get in b and q etc

I don't know exactly what Wimborne White looks like, but our house is done in Dulux Timeless which is a nice soft white.

You know, the difference in the paint costs will be minuscule in comparison with buying the units and counters, etc. That said, Little Greene and Dulux Trade are better in kitchens where there may be more chance of marks and condensation. LG's intelligent Matt emulsion is great in kitchens.

Valspar matches are brilliant. They are in B&Q.

Thank you so much for all the replies- loving the e-paint website! And I'm definitely going to investigate the Deluxe Trade and Valspar matches- thanks again! :-)

@Wildwood6 did you ever find a colour match for Wimbourne White? We are going through this now and struggling to find one that matches. We had Wickes do a colour match with dulux paint but it doesn't look the same. Not bright or soft enough. Thank you.

SistersOfPercy · 28/07/2019 11:21

Johnstones Paint machines can make up any FB shade, you don't even need a colour match.
Just go in, tell them you want Wimbourne White and they have a book with the 'recipe' in for want of a better word.

decorating centre online are great for matching paint, i've tried Valspar before but didn't find the quality great (although it was a darker colour which may make a difference).

Wildwood6 · 29/07/2019 08:06

Hi @lnewt, yes we did! I wasn’t really taken with any of the colour matches we tried, but Dulux Light and Space range in ‘Dessert Wind’ worked really well. It’s a pretty cl
ose match and it’s got that illusive brightness and softness. You need a few coats but it’s lovely- in fact it’s so lovely I’m now in the process of finishing my house with other colours from the Light and Space range Grin

Sorry for the typos, I shouldn’t type messages on the train! Smile

I know that you can get F&B colour matches but they are never the same, the pigment quantities are never enough so you never get the same colour. I used to work in an expensive paint shop.

You would be better off choosing a colour you like in a cheaper paint range that fits your budget, so many do good colour ranges these days.

It’s like most things in life, cheap copies are never the same.

Hi! Has anyone found a dupe for Farrow and Ball in Dulux Trade colours? E Paint site doesn’t give me a great match. Thanks!

Katrina79 · 12/05/2020 15:41

Meant to say in Farrow and Ball Wimborne White

MarieG10 · 12/05/2020 15:50

We used a local Decorating Centre that did trade paint. They did sell F&B so on occasions did the same mix in a non F&B base paint at hugely reduced prices. They had a visit from F&B who warned them if they didn't stop it they would remove all their mixing kit and stop selling to them.

They did tell me the quality is no better than Johnstone's Professional paints, it's just their colour mixes are different and well liked.

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/05/2020 18:24

I've colour matched Johnstone's trade to this colour but I found it a bit green, think that's the right one...
As a PP said I'd spend the money on quality paint rather than try and save on that. LG intelligent emulsion is fab.

Katrina79 · 12/05/2020 19:15

Yes Dulux Trade is quality paint and always been our firm favourite. I’d like to colour match from Farrow and Ball or Benjamin Moore. Thanks for your replies.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 13/05/2020 10:28

In my experience you simply cannot match F&B paint. I've tried time and time again. Also had one cheeky bastard painter who tried to match it and pour it in one of my F&B paint cans! It wasn't even close.

If you want the F&B finish (and colour) just bite the bullet and buy the right paint if you can.

Janey0667 · 19/11/2020 18:58

Dulux fine cream is virtually indistinguishable on the walls. It’s a tiny bit brighter than Wimborne white. But next to each other you can’t tell the difference.

Helenabelle · 19/02/2024 18:22

Really ? Is it that close same undertone etc ?

Redeas · 17/08/2024 20:41

I'm currently on this hunt and just got samples from Dunelm's paint range (50p for adhesive swatches). Haven't bought the actual paint yet (about to, it has good reviews), but I compared all my samples to F&Bs 2024 colour booklet and Dunelms 'Churchgate Ivory' was very close to Wimborne White. Their other soft white, 'Shell' is very close to F&B's 'Dimity'. They had quite a lot of dupes. I'm ordering the Ivory and also their 'Churchgate Almond' which is very close to F&B 'Joas White'

You can’t tell anything from swatches.
