Has anyone got this? A plumber came today to install this and said he didnt like the look of the plastic said it was cheap and could be liable to leak etc....he couldnt fit it!

Hmm - we have one of those but a wider one. A lot of IKEA stuff is not quite the norm to fit - I'm thinking of their kitchen units - and I bet he thought it was going to be awkward and didn't want to do it. I don't buy the 'cheap plastic liable to leak' line because IKEA put their stuff through rigourous testing.

Augustwashout · 31/08/2017 16:45

Thanks wow, good to know it's tested well. I am going for 80 cm one
. Now it's built and stuck in my bathroom in the way we don't really have anywhere too store it!!

God, IKEA must have sold 100s of 1000s of these. I like the look of it - which bit is plastic?

Augustwashout · 31/08/2017 17:07

its a special style plastic washer you cant see it means the drawers are pretty much actual drawers ie go in a fair way,the washer is not metal its plastic and bends under it/

Oh no don't say that, I left it with my plumber and builder to do whilst I am
Away for a couple of days. I hope I get back to see it happily fitted in my new bathroom Confused

amyboo · 01/09/2017 10:30

I don't get it - what is the washer that is plastic and bends? The sink is ceramic right? We don't have the same one, but have a similar one in the Lillangen range with a cupboard underneath and the sink mounted on top in the downstair toilet, and we have 2 Godmorgen ones with sinks on top, drawers underneath in the bathrooms. My plumber said there was very little difference between Ikea cabinets/units and expensive ones from specialist bathroom shops. However, he refuses to use their taps, as he says they're cheapy and liable to break. So we have Ikea units and Grohe taps.

mintbiscuit · 01/09/2017 10:43

Had one of this fitted only last week. Plumber didn't comment about likelihood of leaking at all. Confused

No leaks yet.

wowfudge · 01/09/2017 12:15

I go back to what I said originally: the plumber you got in is unfamiliar with it or not very experienced and just doesn't want to do the job. I hope he hasn't charged you anything.

Augustwashout · 01/09/2017 16:05

wow no he didnt charge us - he told me the issues with it to "warn" someone else.

First our washer hole thing has been buried in the wall and needs drilling out or something ie it doesnt stick out.

secondly its the bending washer thing.

I had another plumber round today also fingering the ikea stuff with disgust - said sink metal thing where you put plug was thin and cheap, laughed at all the plastic pipes....

he also said our taps were not great pressure and the pipes leading to our current taps are wider than the thinner ones on the ikea tap he felt these were made for more high pressure and said we would only get a trickle out.

I just dont know what to do...its bloody built and in our living room ( the cabinet) should I take the bloody thing back, try and get get anther non ikea unit.
Sad so annoying.

the other plumber said he didnt feel it could be fitted either, they cant get head around the drawers you see.

@mintbiscuit

are you able to take pic of the back at all OR do you know how they fitted the wash ppip thing to the waste pipe

I've taken some photos for you -everything is securely in place and no sign of any leaks.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 01/09/2017 20:01

I work for IKEA and I used to work in Bathshop (in a different area now) The fittings are fine, honest - I do not know why some plumbers dislike our fittings but they do - the same way there's a proportion of kitchen fitters who get up tight about kitchen fittings. I guess anything that's slightly different will annoy certain people! If it helps the plumbing bits come under the same 10year guarantee as the sinks, so should you have issues, or want to replace them you get them free from customer services. They can order the spare parts for you.

Augustwashout · 01/09/2017 20:10

Wow thats really helpful thanks. What you have going into the floor is half way on ours. So he was saying will have to drill and put waste thing at different level which i do get will be tricky.

Mrs mine also said the narrow pipes for taps wont work with low pressure we will just get a trickle. Both plumbers have shaked heads....fingered the fittings like the thing that goes in sink with disgust, said they wouldnt want to fit it even if they could....i dont get it nor do I get the difference with metal fittings and plastic ones...

Augustwashout · 01/09/2017 20:15

I can also see your pipes are far more streamlined than mine, however I am happy to loose the top drawer if it helps.

Have emailed loads more people today and hope that someone can do it somewhere!

I had a different ikea washstand in the house that I grew up in. We had it since 2013-2016 (when the house was demolished). It worked perfectly. Not a single leak the whole time. After the house was demolished we gave it to a friend who was renovating a rental property because it was still like new.

wowfudge · 02/09/2017 00:18

I found this online www.virginiasweetpea.com/bathroom-renovation-update-how-to-install-an-ikea-hemnes-sink/ Although it's an American blog, it clearly shows a slightly different plumbing set up for the unit where the waste is higher up and in the wall.

Augustwashout · 02/09/2017 09:30

I found that too Wow and sent it to the plumber but had no response, however I am going to show it to new plumbers who come on Monday! We have not brought anything for our house since me we moved in 12 years ago and on a trip to Ikea happened to see this unit and decided to go for the plunge. Was soooo excited! Thought it would be in by now. The old one is yucky now.
