We have just moved house around 200 miles away. Had the movers booked for several weeks for monday 21st. Movers were more of a man and van family company than a large organisation.
Dh checked when he booked that our stuff would fit in their van as not so easy to do a second trip and was assured on the phone and in writing that it would. Price was given for the whole job to move our two bed flat from place a to place b 200miles away.
Movers turned up monday and said they needed money by midday by bank transfer and after seeing flat assured us it would all fit. All fine, payed the money.
By 2pm the van was 2/3 loaded and they came and said it wouldn't fit but 1 guy would be back in the morning to take the rest with dh help. At this point we told them to leave the rest for the next day and get going rather than filling the van up as they would get back late that night as it was and needed a second trip regardless. All fine said he'd be back 9.30 next morning.
Tuesday morning no sign of guy. 10am call and no answer from him or boss. Text boss to ask what's going on and boss replies that he was waiting for us to rebook for a second day! Boss then quoted over 2/3 of original price for the rest of the job including my dh loading and unloading with his guy. After 4 hours of texting back and forward due to boss not answering our calls we get the price down to just under half original price and dh helping to load the van. We didn't really have another option and half our stuff still needed moving so paid and mover turned up at 3pm to start.
Move was completed but all our things practically thrown in new house so we could barely fit through doors and so far have found glass on the drive from broken vase, 3 broken picture frames and a hole through dd play table. Lots of things we haven't looked at yet obviously and some boxes wont be unpacked for a few months as living with family while finding house in new area.
So, if you've made it this far, do we have any chance of getting back and of the money we paid on day 2 as original price was for the whole job with the assurance it would be one load?
Should we try to get money for broken things or that may complicate it and should I hold off on all of the awful reviews I'm desperate to write in case there's a possibility of taking them to small claims?
Or just suck it up as a bad job and slang them off on review site so no one else has to put up with their shit ?!
(Aware that's probably very long and rambling but I'm so angry still!!)
