Matt paint over silk

What can I do?!

Have found out too late that matt over silk doesn't work. Previous owners painted a whole room in dark shiny purple. We sanded them and scrubbed clean. Two coats of matt paint later and there are lots of spidery cracks.

Any idea what I can now do to fix the problem? Thanks!

There's a paint you can get which covers up problem surfaces and also fills minor cracks, can't remember the name ATM, but I'll look in the garage later, it worked for me over some horrible shiny paint which new paint didn't stick to. Got it from b&q, the paint specialist recommended it.

Thank you! I've spent days painting then googled 'why is my matt paint cracking?' and that's when I found out I had made a rookie error...

Or you could just go to town sanding and take off all the silk paint. (if you have an electric sander, lot of work by hand lol!)

Or paper it, or plain paper and paint that.

Thank you. We have two dried coats of matte that has taken ages to do that has now dried and cracked over the offensive purple shiny stuff. So I've shut the door and called a decorator. He's coming to quote tomorrow Grin
