What do I need to do to this ceiling following a leak?

Had a leak from upstairs. It got fixed yesterday. This is the ceiling now. I am hoping that the ceiling will dry out and I will be able to paint it. Is that realistic? Will I be able to remove the water marks by washing it with something?

No. - you will need to apply a stain block and then repaint the ceiling. If you don't use a stain block then the stain will bleed back through a new coat of paint

btw if you ever have a leak above a ceiling, poke a hole in it with a skewer or something so the water can drain out. Put a bucket under it.

Filling a little skewer hole, once it's dry, is easy.

We have had good results with the stain blocker from Zinnser
