Help... toilet flush button stuck!

I'm staying at a friend's place looking after her cats and I've broken the toilet after just an hour or so.

The flush button won't pop back up. The cistern lid won't lift up, something is holding it in place. It's a bit more modern than I'm used to - all of mine are liftable which makes it easy to have a poke around!

Any ideas?

The flush button should unscrew to allow access to cistern?

I have that exact same toilet and mine gets stuck occasionally. You need to unscrew the outer ring around the button. The button can then be lifted up .

Posted too soon.

.....and then the lid can be removed. I think that's my loo anyway. Certainly very similar.

Before you do that when ours does this just sort if press it again and wiggle it at the same time

Thanks all - yes, that should've been blindingly obvious! I screwed it open, but I still can't work out why it's not flushing, and I can't even begin to describe the parts!

My friend's dad is popping over in a bit for something unrelated, I'll ask him but if he doesn't know I'll be back for more advice.

Mine has got a metal doodah that hooks over a plastic hooky bit (excuse the technical termsBlush). Sometimes the metal bit jumps off the hook and had to be hooked back on.
