Builders quotes

We have got planning permission and building control permission for a demolition/rebuild of an old extension as well as a side extension. We have used an architect thus far to draw the plans up, but are unsure what to do next.
Do we need more detailed architects drawings or are the ones we have for building control purposes sufficient to get quotes on?
How much detail do we need in a spec to get builders to quote against??

Would we be better to get the architect to help us with this phase too - if you did this roughly how much did your architects charge to help with the obtaining quotes etc.

Many Thanks

I used the architects plans that were given to the building control officer to get quotes. I think so long as you have a good vision for what you want and can explain it they should be sufficient . I used a guy to project manage it all and a lot of what was done was decided on the day. I didn't need planning consent though, only building regs so we could pretty well do as we pleased. E.g. The windows in the extension, I told the bricklayer what I wanted, he suggested something else that was better, they laid the bricks accordingly.

Thanks for the reply - I am a little nervous of coordinating myself and would prefer everything written down so there is no confusion about what has been agreed. So maybe architect or project manager is the way forward.
