Internal doors - cheapest and easiest solution

We moved into a 1970s built house last year and it has grim dark brown/red stained internal doors. Some have bite and scratch marks in from the previous owners giant angry dog. They look horrible and I'm not sure what's best to do. We can't afford to remove all 10 doors and get new ones. I've read that this type of door can't be stripped back. Could we paint them or would it look awful? Or is it worth buying the cheap white doors e.g. £18 at wickes and attempting to hang them ourselves? I worry they'd be light and crap and then we'd do an awful job of hanging them too but no idea. Any creative solutions appreciated!

You could take them off, sand any rough bits and paint with a good white eggshell say dulux. Small roller will get a good finish. Maybe try one door as a test? New handles even cheap ones can freshen up doors too.

Actually If you go to a decorators merchant explain the problem they will help you choose decent paint and primer which will speed things up. Might be £50 for the tin but you won't regret it if it saves you extra coats.

I like the idea of trying to decorate them but no idea how I could do that without the kids touching them before they're dry! I don't know how feasible removing them and getting them back up would be as I'm not very skilled 😟

Doors are easy, you just unscrew at the hinges. There's only one way to put them back so you can't get it wrong. You can paint them in the frame if you have to. Eggshell paint is quite fast drying (1hr) but yes you need to get DC out of the way!
