Tell me about the Heatons, south Manchester.

A move to Manchester may be looming early next year. I've lived in Didsbury previously, as a young single person. Now I am neither of those things and after over a decade in London I'm sure the world of south Manchester has changed too.

I'd love to be in West Didsbury but budget (around 300-325k I reckon) probably won't stretch. I'm researching nearby alternatives. What is the 2017 verdict on the Heatons? Back in my day, H. Mersey was becoming a good shout for Didsbury and Chorlton/naice ham sorts 🐷 who wanted more space for less money. Hs. Moor, Chapel and Norris came less recommended for reasons I was never quite clear on. Have things moved on?

Basic wish list will be house rather than flat, ideally three bedrooms, a drive (2 cars) and gardens. No need to worry about schools for now. A few 'things' nearby like places to eat, delis and coffee shops, nice pubs.

We're not at viewing stage yet so not looking at specific houses, more getting a feel for the areas.

Thank you in advance. I now fall at your wise feet.

Heaton moor is really lovely. I grew up in Heaton Mersey which is nice, but Heaton moor has that lovely village feel with nice pubs, restaurants, cafe's, the nicest curry house ever etc. There are loads of victorian semi's if that's your thing.

That's really helpful, thank you. That's exactly the feel I'm after. Although having done a Rightmove search I'm not sure Heaton Moor (or indeed Mersey) are much less expensive than Didsbury now!

Might need to pop up for a fact-findy area visit.

I'm relatively local. I think it is a little less expensive but still not cheap. Certainly worth paying though.

I think the popularity (or not) of various parts of The Heatons is mostly to do with schools.

I think Heaton Moor is considered the best of the Heatons. And probably the most expensive. Don't know about the schools though. Don't know why Chorlton is getting more expensive and popular.

The Heatons are fab but you may struggle on your budget for a decent three bed. Decent properties tend to go to bids at the moment and I don't think its much cheaper than west didsbury but it's a much nice area in my opinion and less rough looking/ studenty than west dids!

This is all very helpful info, thank you. I think you're right about budget. Might be a squeeze.
